Christopher & Carrie Deal | Founders, Grit & Nails
Grit & Nails didn’t start with a business plan or a shop class. It started with a simple refusal to settle.
When we couldn’t find furniture worth buying at a price worth paying, Christopher decided to build it himself. No formal training, no shortcuts — just raw materials, determination, and a willingness to figure it out. What began as building pieces for our own home became something that couldn’t be stopped.
Every piece is handcrafted from scratch — Christopher sources the lumber, mills it, builds it, finishes it, and delivers it personally. From selecting the right wood species for your project to the final coat of finish, every decision is made with the end result in mind. No assembly lines, no shortcuts, no compromises.
Over the years Grit & Nails has grown from reclaimed pallet wood and salvaged materials into a full custom furniture and cabinetry operation working with premium hardwoods — walnut, cherry, ash, ambrosia maple, oak, and more. The work has evolved. The commitment to craftsmanship hasn’t.
We specialize in custom furniture and built-ins for homeowners across North Carolina — from the Triad and Triangle to Charlotte, Asheville, and the coast. Every piece is built to your exact specifications, your space, and your style. Modern farmhouse, traditional, industrial, transitional — if you can describe it, we can build it.
If you’re tired of overpriced, mass-produced furniture that doesn’t last and doesn’t fit — you’re in the right place.
Let’s build something worth keeping.
